It probably was caused by a great nostalgy to make a PC fonts based
on old typewriter...
Here you can find some freewarefonts looking like typewriter.
If you wish your PC output to look like an old Royal or Underwood -
just download and install it!
Click on font sample to start downloading ZIP file with font.
The biggest Internet collection of free typewriter-style fonts (also some
for Macs) I've ever seen (over 70) is located at:
www.free-typewriter-fonts.com
Nice but expensive ($19 each) fonts you can also find at
Vintage Type page.
Asked by Mike (regards!) I add that short explanation how to install
the fonts:
True Type (ttf) are designed for Windows 95 ® and higher. I do
not know anything about using True Type fonts in other systems. Please
refer to font oriented sites/lists for details about other systems like
Mac, Beos, Linux, Unix, OS2 etc.
first download file - by clicking on picture with font sample and selecting option
"save file to disk" in pop-up window
using any unziping program decompress file to any temporary directory -
e.g. C:\TMP.
For unziping you can use WinZip, Unzip, WinRar, Windows Commander or lot of other
(de)compressing programs that support ZIP format
If it was requested by font author you will get *.ttf file and
other file like readme.txt (or similar name). The secondary file
consist of some information about font prepaired by author.
If you are going to give that font to other person please ALWAYS give it
together with that file!
It's time to install font.
Go to the Fonts section of Control
Panel (Start > Settings > Control
Panel > Fonts) and choose File >
Install New Font. In the window that
comes up, find the folder where you
extracted the font (in our example - C:\TMP). Select it and
click OK. The font is now installed,
and can be used within any of Windows applications.
Easy, isn't it?
Links between typewriter and PC can be even stronger. Gifted guy with fantasy has updated classic
Smith-Corona into USB keybord for PC. Since this Corona is mass and no collectionable value
I have no doubts about his job:
